Finally getting something done

Well, after running around trying to get two different cars fixed or replaced, I'm finally getting some 'quilting' done.  Thursday, at sew-in, I finished hand quilting a wall quilt for a relative.  Now to get the binding on it.  I also cut out paper foundations for string quilting for both the Roll, Roll Cotton Boll quilt and for Quilts of Valor.  This weekend I washed, dried and ironed all of the fabric I've collected so far for the RRCB quilt.  I've even ironed almost all of the material from the shirts I've dissected for the string pieces for that quilt.  My guys have been great about letting me take over the family room with a sewing table, and my cutting/ironing table, too.  There isn't much room for them when all of that is set up.  I still have to start cutting strings.  I plan on getting a few more chocolate fabrics on the shop hop in February.  I even got some hand quilting done on my DMIL's quilt today.

Busy Week last week

What a week!  Dealing with insurance people, car rental people, car repair people and regular life.  John's car is totaled, but, we didn't find out until Thursday.  I found out while I was at the weekly sew-in.  YEA! for sew-in and the ladies that come.  Connor and I cleaned out John's car and ran errands before heading back home so I could go to quilt guild.  When they started the program, guess what?!?  They talked about Bonnie Hunter's web site, and even showed part of a quilt in progress from her site.  Yes, it is 'Roll Roll Cotton Boll' that I'm working on.  I even picked up more shirts at Salvation Army Wednesday afternoon to use for the quilt.  I spent Wednesday night and Friday taking them apart.  Saturday, John had his slot car buddy's over for a day of racing.  My job is to provide the food.  I spent all morning in the kitchen.  Brownies for Connor's church get together and for dessert for the guys.  I made mom's chicken spaghetti for lunch.  It went over well, again.  This  race has been scheduled for many months.  That's why we didn't car shop on Saturday.  After lunch, I finally got to work on the 'Fat Cat's' quilt.  All of the applique is finished, and half of the blocks are put together.  I still need to work on the faces of the cats (whiskers, etc).  We ended the day by going out with friends.  It was a fun night at the Irish pub.

My Sunday - Oops!

An interesting Sunday morning drive to church.  As I stopped for the train, I watched in my rear view mirror as my dear hubby rammed into the back of my SUV.  I couldn't do anything.  Thanks goodness he wasn't hurt!  The nice officer didn't give him a ticket, we figured he thought my hubby was in enough trouble hitting his wife's car and having double deductible's without adding more insult to the day.  As you can see, my SUV doesn't show much damage (thank goodness), but, I still figure it'll add up to about $2000.  We'll see later what the damages will be to John's car.  I sure hope they don't total it.  At least we can laugh about it.
I didn't get any quilting done today.  I probably won't until at least Tuesday.  I have a new quilt top to start for a friend.  If I can find the link again, I'll post it when I start on it.  I still have to finish my dear mother-in-laws quilt.  I worked on it last week, but, it's been a busy week here and I haven't worked on it again.  I started a new audio book while quilting on it.  I've gotta finish that book now, that means lots more quilting.
It's snowing today!  I do like watching it snow.  Unfortunately, they think that it will turn to sleet and freezing rain before the day is over.  THAT I don't like.  At least if it's going to be cold and dreary outside, it will be covered with snow and be prettier to look at.

Thrift Store therapy

I am going to make Bonnie Hunter's quilt 'Roll, Roll Cotton Boll' that is on her blog.  I visited several thrift stores looking for men's shirt's to use in the strip piecing area's of the quilt.  I just love thrift stores!  I found several 100% cotton shirts that I can use.  I've been watching movies while I've been 'deconstructing' the shirts.  Movies and fabric, it doesn't get much better than that.  My son thinks I'm crazy to buy shirts then tear them apart for quilts.  If that is crazy, then it's a good kind of crazy.  By the way, I found a quilt at one of the thrift stores yesterday.  It is a doll size quilt, made in blues and whites.  It is a sampler quilt.  It was only $1.  It is hand quilted.  I found 2 large lap quilts last month at the same thrift store.  They are also both blue and white quilts and hand quilted.  They look like the same person made them all.  I purchased those quilts for $10 each.  WOW!  I just can't understand families giving away something that another family member took such time and effort making.  I hope I've trained my guys better than that.  They know what goes into each of my quilts.  Now, back to the movies and tearing up shirts.....

My New Blog!

Hello!  After seeing all of the great blogs out there, I decided to try blogging myself.  Bear with me, I've never done anything like this before.  I don't know how often I'll post, but, I'll try not to waste your time.
