A Finish and a box of goodies

Baby blanket done
I FINISHED IT!  Yea!  This is a baby blanket for my best friends grandson.  I made the panel a few years ago, waiting for a baby to come along.  Well, the baby arrived in March.  Another really good friend machine quilted it for me last fall (Thanks Kay).  I started putting the binding on then, and then stopped.  I kept forgetting to finish the binding.  Oops!  Since it wasn't done last March when I went to Texas, I again forgot to finish it.  I grabbed it before we went back to Texas earlier this month.  I worked on it a bit in the car, but, didn't get time to finish it while we were there.  But, I got it finished in the car on the way thru Oklahoma.  Yipee!  Now I have to mail it.  We'll see how long that takes.
Thread from Belgium

This lovely assortment of threads and the postcard arrived yesterday all the way from Belgium.  I sent some muslin to Belgium, and I got all this back.  Such pretty colors!  I'll have fun with these.  Thanks Gregory!

I am hoping to get several things basted this weekend.  I really need some more finishes.  I have LOTS of starts, but no other finishes in sight.  I may (don't quote me on this) even try to machine quilt some small things.  I can only do 'stitch in the ditch' on a machine, or follow the straight line.  I mess up everything else I try to machine quilt.  What do you think about part machine and part hand quilting???  Is that cheating?

  1. Love the baby quilt - better late than never. Oh, drooling over the thread - how wonderful! I mix my quilting a lot - some machine, some hand with quilt thread, sometimes pearl cotton or floss, might even throw in some areas that are tied. And on teen/adult quilts, might even use some buttons to aide in the 'quilting'.

  3. Congrats on finishing the baby quilt!! I'm realllllly trying to finish stuff too. It's hard when there are so many fun things to start! I think you can totally quilt any way you want! There's no cheating, just executive design decisions. I'm glad you are home! I have your giveaway prize! =)

  4. Cute baby quilt!!

I don't think it's cheating to do hand and machine quilting at all!! It's something I have a mind to do with some special projects I have in my head to do.

  8. The baby quilt is lovely. You don't have to tell anyone when you started it. You wish you could finish more things. I wish I could start more things. I tend to get stuck in the dreaming stage :)
    Just enjoy whatever you do.

  9. Cute baby quilt. My Mom made quilts for all six of my kids for their second birthdays. They loved them. (my Eagle Scout took his to camp hidden in his sleeping bag) I had to replace most of the quilting stitches over the years because my mom bought the cheapest thread she could find but all six are still being cherished and even used by another generation. So, what's a few months give or take!
