Terrific Trip Treasures!

I drove my son's dorm stuff back to Oklahoma last week.  I didn't get a chance to stop at any fun places until I was on the way back home on Thursday.  I had fun stopping at antique stores on the way back.  A girl's gotta rest sometime, doesn't she?  I did get a tiny bit of stitching done while I was away.

I did manage to find a few sewing related items for really good prices at some of the antique stores in Missouri and Illinois.  The most expensive thing I got was $7.50.

I found another flat iron for only a few dollars.  I haven't plugged it in yet, to see if it works or not.  At least the cord is in good shape.

I also found some doilies, a hankie and some patterns.  One has a vintage machine in the pattern (gee, can't figure why I'd be drawn to that pattern, can you)?

these were too pretty to pass up

Dresden's are so pretty!

look at that vintage looking machine
I found several sets of attachments and buttonholers, too!

New Home box of attachments with a button hole cutter, too, also 2 double needles

not one but two Domestic buttonholers in cases

I did find a sewing machine, but, not what you think.  I found a Holly Hobbie toy sewing machine.  I doubt it works, but, for $5, it sure is cute!

I also found something from the USSR.  Check out this cool thimble.

I also found 20 hexie flowers for $7.50 (my most expensive purchase) in Missouri.  I'm thinking that I need to stitch them to muslin backgrounds and make a quilt with them.

I love the fussy cut centers of these

I only had internet connection for one evening, and it was S-L-O-W!!!!!!  I couldn't check out any blogs at all.  I'm behind, but, I'll catch up on all of you soon.

Monday is another quilt guild meeting, then Quilts of Valor on Tuesday, in Batavia.  I'll try to remember to take some pictures.

Have a great week!

Teapot Tuesday & Fun finds!

I love to stop at antique shops and quilts stores while I travel.  I have to get out and stretch my legs every few hours, and antique shops make a great place to stop.  While on my two rushed trips to and from Texas, I found some great items that came home with me.
Hubby said I couldn't bring home any sewing machines, but, I didn't think he would mind this one.  I found it in Texas.

Sorry, I didn't clean this up before I took pictures.  It was really dusty, but, it did clean up nicely.  I love the plant on the back of the machine base.

I stopped at a cute little store in Bristow, OK, that I've wanted to stop at for a while now, but, I keep going by it hours before it opens.  This time, I got to stop.  I found this great quilt top for only $8.

This is covering my dining room table for the moment.  I also found a few large spools at this shop, along with some sewing items (sorry, no pictures of those).

I found lots of doilies at different shops along the way, too.

I also found three embroidered blocks at a stop in Missouri.

I also found some cute ceramic items.  A dish and a candle holder.

I discovered a great quilt shop in Burkburnett, Texas, The Stitching Depot.  They even have a website.  I found a great Texas pattern and a book.

I'm going to have fun reading this book, even if I don't make any of the quilts in it.

I also found some fabric at 2 different stores in Texas.

lots of fabrics, mainly fat quarters
I have a really good friend in Tulsa, OK (ok, two really good friends in the area), but, Betty made me something special.  Betty and I learned to quilt from a lady at my old church, way back in 2001.  Gail taught us to quilt, then, after the class was over, the ladies continued to meet weekly for several years.  Betty also crochets, and made an afghan for my youngest son when he went off to college.  She had extra yarn, so, she made me a lap size afghan, in the same colors.

My mother's new hubby does wood turning.  He made me this lovely vase.  I put a wooden rose in it that I had purchased in Mountain View, Arkansas, while at my family reunion.

Melvin does great work.  He is also very generous.  Thanks Melvin!

Last, but not least, I haven't had 'Teapot Tuesday' in a very long time (bad me)!  Well, I found this great teapot clock at an antique mall in Illinois on the way home.

Gee, I brought home 2 different sewing machines, but, since they don't 'sew' they don't count, do they?

Oldest son will be home soon for Thanksgiving.  Gotta go!  Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving!

Arkansas Goodies!

This past weekend was my family's 30th Anniversary reunion in Mountain View, Arkansas.  The reunions are every 2 years (used to be every 3 years), and I've only missed one reunion (I went on my honeymoon instead).

Mountain View is the Folk Music capitol.  There are lots of great things to do there.  There are also lots of antique stores and 2 quilt stores.  The best quilt store is The Quilting Bee, where hubby purchased me a Janome sewing machine 8 years ago at a family reunion.  I take that machine back to be serviced every 2 years.  The owner is a sweet lady!

One year at the reunion, we brought back a dog.  That was a great year!  Padfoot is now 12 years old.

Sorry, the best pictures of her are on my phone, and I don't have a clue how to load them on the computer.

This year, I brought some other things home from the reunion, like 2 sewing machines!

I don't know how old this machine is.  It's really dirty, but, it runs when it is plugged in.  It only cost me $30.  I've heard that these are great machines.

I also picked up a sad little Singer 66 in crinkle finish.  I kept going back to look at her.

I don't really like crinkle finish, but, this little machine just kept calling to me.  She is filthy and missing some parts.  I don't know if the motor works, either.  the wires need to be replaced if the motor works.  I can turn this one into a hand crank if she sews.

I also found more attachments, mainly Griest.

I found lots of vintage hankies and doilies, along with 3 thimbles.

At The Quilting Bee, I found some great deals.

several yards of 3 different fabrics

love this spider web fabric
The large stripe/print will make another table runner next month for my tiny guilds demo.  The spiderweb fabric (sorry the color is terrible) will be backing for some of my Wicked blog hop projects.  Come back and see them on Wednesday, October 24th.  I worked on several of the projects while at the family reunion.

I also found this cute little pattern and the kit to go with it at The Quilting Bee.

Sew Fun pattern and fabric kit
Across the street from The Quilting Bee is another shop that has quilting fabric and items in it, along with lots of other items that they sell.  I found lots of cute, crocheted flowers for $0.50 each.  I had to have several of them, of course!

They also had some fat quarters for $1.  I just couldn't resist.

$1 fat quarters and cute scissors for embellishments
I also found a sewing bird at this shop.  I have a vintage sewing bird, but, I couldn't resist this 'new' bird.  My vintage sewing bird can be seen here.

The last thing is a cute, crocheted teacup.  I just thought it was sew cute!

The best part of the family reunion was my youngest son getting to come.  He arrived Friday night, so we got to spend the weekend with him.  We won't get to see him again until Christmas.  Here is a picture of him standing next to the well where my grandfather was born.

Now to finish catching up on the computer.  Have a great week!
